Mossy Fragrances

A mossy accord smells earthy, green, damp, and shaded, evoking oakmoss, tree bark, forest floor, lichen, roots, and humid woodland air. It can feel velvety and elegant, bitter and herbal, or dark and natural depending on the surrounding notes. Mossy effects are strongly associated with chypre and fougère structures, where they provide depth, contrast, and a dry green base. They pair well with bergamot, patchouli, labdanum, vetiver, lavender, galbanum, rose, leather, woods, and musks. In a composition, moss can soften sweetness, ground florals, and add a mature, atmospheric quality that feels classic, mysterious, or outdoorsy.
