Smoky Fragrances

A smoky accord evokes burning wood, incense, charred resins, tobacco ash, roasted materials, or the dry haze left by a fire. It can smell dark and campfire-like, elegant and incense-driven, leathery and tarry, or subtly toasted depending on the composition. In fragrance, smoky notes add drama, shadow, and depth to woods, ambers, leathers, ouds, vetiver, tobacco, and spices. They can also create contrast in sweet gourmands, florals, and fruity scents, making them feel more complex and less sugary. Some smoky accords are soft and atmospheric, while others are bold, austere, or almost burnt. The effect often gives perfumes a memorable, lingering character.
